What can I expect following a tooth extraction?
Following your extraction, you may have some discomfort. This is normal and will fade away soon.
A clot will form in the extraction site. This clot is a necessary part of the healing process, so you’ll want to be careful not to disturb it. Soft, cool foods like ice cream, pudding, yogurt, and applesauce will be the most comfortable for the first day or two following your extraction. Don’t drink through a straw because the sucking action can disturb your clot.
Smoking can disturb the clot, increase your risk for bleeding, and delay the healing process. If you smoke, please try to avoid doing so during your healing time.
